POLYSTYRENE
Now regarded as an industry standard for producing light weight prop items, medium and large sculpture, building frontages and architectural details. Polystyrene is also an excellent material for mimicking most textures like rough stone façades, cast iron, rock formations and organic finishes.
I have used polystyrene to recreate everything from small figurative pieces, tribal masks and totem poles right up to whole villages, huge caves, cliff faces and even a 40 foot Viking longboat. Using hot-wire, custom made jigs and good old carving and sculpting, virtually anything can be reproduced in poly and finished in a variety of coatings from flexible latex to PU hard coat
